Self bonding enameled wire is a special type of enameled wire with an additional bonding layer. After winding, the coil can be bonded by heat, solvent or electrical current so that the turns hold together without separate tape, bobbin or impregnation in some designs.

How Self Bonding Wire Works
A normal enameled wire has a conductor and insulation coating. Self bonding enameled wire adds a bonding layer outside the main insulation. During the bonding process, this outer layer softens, flows or activates. After cooling or drying, it bonds adjacent turns together.
The conductor may be copper or aluminum, and the base insulation may vary by thermal class and application. The bonding layer must be compatible with the winding process and the working temperature of the final coil.
